Huaraz History
Huaraz was founded in the XVI century by Jerónimo de Aliaga. In Huaraz inhabited different tribes of pre- inca and inca times.
Huaraz was rebuilt almost completely, after the earthquake damaged it on May 31, 1970, so its architecture and buildings do not have the characteristics of Andean cities. Huaraz city is one of the touristic centers of most activity in Perú, specially in Callejón de Huaylas. Near this city, there are also a hot-spring baths in Chabcos and Monterrey, which have minerals with curative characteristics and they are ideal to relax.
